St. Peter’s Hospital Foundation, part of St. Peter’s Health Partners (SPHP), is set to receive $1 million in emergency funding from the Hearst Foundations.

The charitable donation is part of more than $50 million being allocated by the William Randolph Hearst Foundation of California and the Hearst Foundation, Inc. of New York. The funds will support more than 100 U.S. medical, humanitarian, and cultural organizations severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The Hearst Foundations have been long-standing supporters of the St. Peter’s Hospital Foundation,” said Peter Semenza, vice president of philanthropy for SPHP. “We are most grateful for their continued support in this critical time of need as our front-line doctors and nurses compassionately care for COVID-19 patients from our region and those from New York City. Their generosity will make a lasting impact and will forever be remembered and appreciated.”

William Randolph Hearst III and Virginia Hearst Randt, presidents of the William Randolph Hearst Foundation of California and the Hearst Foundation, Inc. of New York, made the announcement alongside Frank A. Bennack, Jr., chair of the gift committees of the two foundations.

“These grants are in addition to the regular support the two foundations make annually to hundreds of worthy nonprofit organizations,” the presidents wrote in a statement. “These actions are being taken early in the crisis and in recognition of the critical and immediate need for the funds.”

The funds are expected to be received by St. Peter’s Hospital Foundation before the end of April.
